Care Program Overview
Glooko’s Gestational Diabetes care program is designed to make it easier for clinicians to share educational resources and best practices for their patients with gestational diabetes (GDM). When you assign patients this care program, they will be able to access the information about GDM within their personal Glooko account. To see what information the patient will receive, click here.
In the rest of this document, you’ll find resources and tips for how you can manage your patient with gestational diabetes using Glooko, through either Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and/or the in-clinic setting.

How to use Glooko to Care for your patients
Glooko allows clinicians to remotely access a wide variety of patient-generated data in one place, including: diabetes device data, blood pressure data, medications and lifestyle data. This access to data, in combination with Glooko’s analytics, insights, and remote care tools allows clinicians to run RPM and telehealth programs for their diabetes patients.
Below is a quick start checklist on how Glooko can be used for managing your patient with gestational diabetes.
- Ensure your patient has activated their personal Glooko account. If they haven’t, you can resend an invite to Glooko. Watch how.
- When prescribing a glucometer or CGM to the patient, be sure to check Glooko’s compatibility page to choose a diabetes device that is compatible with the patient’s phone or computer.
- Fill out your patient’s profile, including Type of Diabetes, Gender, Weight and Height. Glooko is able to deliver enhanced insights to your patient using this information. Watch how.
- Set your patient’s blood glucose range targets. These target ranges will be used to deliver insights to both you and your patient about how they’re progressing in managing their glucose ranges. Watch how.
- Check your patient’s data on a regular basis (watch how). If they haven’t synced their data in a while, check in with them.
- If applicable, view your patient’s medication and/or insulin records that they’re logging into Glooko. If the patient is regularly logging their medications into Glooko or working with you to adjust insulin, you can see how the patient is progressing with their blood glucose control.
ADA and ADCES Recommendations for Gestational Diabetes
The ADA recommends the following to manage gestational diabetes:
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Before a meal: 95mg/dL or less
- One hour after a meal: 140 mg/dL or less
- Two hours after a meal: 120 mg/dL or less
- A balanced diet
- Eating a variety of foods that include fruits and vegetables
- Watching meal portions
- Keeping fat intake to less than 30% of daily calories
- Staying active
- Depending on the fitness level of the patient prior to diagnosis, a personalized exercise plan should be put together.
- In some cases, taking prescribed medication
- If the patient’s blood sugar levels are not in target despite nutrition and increased exercise, the ADCES recommends prescribing diabetes medication and/or insulin.
For reference, see the ADA recommendations and the ADCES practice guide for gestational diabetes.
Diabetes and Lifestyle Data Monitoring In Glooko
Glooko’s reports and graphs facilitate viewing all of the patient’s diabetes and lifestyle data in one place, without the need for an in-clinic appointment (as long as the patient is syncing their diabetes device and logging lifestyle data to Glooko).
- Head to the Summary tab for summary statistics on glucose and medication data (if any) as well as a history view of all glucose and other lifestyle data.
- These include all logged foods, medications, and BG data from diabetes devices.
- The Logbook section shows a day-by-day BG, carbs, and insulin data.
- The Graphs section includes graphical representations of diabetes data by week and by day of week.
See the video for more details on how to use Glooko’s Reports and Graphs.
Patient-specific goal setting
You can change target BG ranges for an individual patient by navigating to the patient’s Profile section and scrolling down to the target BG ranges section. You will then be able to set the patient’s BG lower limit, before meal upper limit, and after meal upper limit. As a guide, the ADA recommends the following for gestational diabetes:
- Before a meal: 95mg/dL or less
- One hour after a meal: 140 mg/dL or less
- Two hours after a meal: 120 mg/dL or less
See the how-to video for more details on how to manage Patient Settings.
