Why is Glooko mailing out 4G Modems?
Currently, Glooko Transmitters offer connectivity via either the 3G mobile network or Ethernet cable. Mobile providers globally have started to close down their 3G networks.
In order to support our Clinicians who utilize the 3G connectivity for Transmitter uploads, we will be sending each clinic with active Transmitter usage a 4G modem to ensure continued connectivity for their uploads.
Can we use the Transmitter's Ethernet capability?
Absolutely! If you are already using the Ethernet capability for your Transmitter(s), the 3G removal will not impact your continued ability to upload.
If you are currently using the Transmitter's 3G connectivity and would prefer not to use the 4G modem, you may choose to coordinate with your IT and Security teams to pursue connecting your Transmitter via Ethernet.
What clinics will be receiving the modems?
Any clinic with an active Transmitter will be sent a 4G USB modem. We understand there may be clinics with unused transmitters in storage.
If a clinic has not received a 4G modem from Glooko, please reach out to Customer Support at email@example.com.
What is the brand/make of the modem?
The device that will be sent out Alcatel LINK KEY LTE Cat 4 Dongle. The device plugs directly into an available USB Port.
How do we set up and enable connectivity through the modems?
Each 4G modem will be shipped with an instruction detailing how to connect the device. The steps included are:
- Turn your Glooko Transmitter off and then on again by unplugging and replugging the power cord
- Insert the Alcatel USB modem into the USB Hub (if available) or the USB port located on the back of the Glooko Transmitter, if you are not using a USB Hub.
- Wait until the light on the modem emits a constant blue light
- Once the constant blue light displays, your Transmitter is running on the 4G network and the set-up is complete!
Please ensure that the USB modem stays connected to ensure connectivity for your Transmitter.
You can see all the steps in the following video:
How can I tell if the modem is connected correctly?
Due to the configuration of the 4G Modem, it will display as an ethernet device on the transmitter. To check that the modem is connected appropriately:
- Tap the three horizontal lines in the top left on the transmitter screen
- Select Settings
- Select Network Settings
- Select Ethernet Settings
- The status will display as Connected
Please Note: it is recommended that the Network Switcher, found under Cellular Settings on the transmitter, is toggled off for optimum performance.
If you run into any issues during the setup process, please reach out to firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance!
When can my clinic expect to receive a 4G modem?
All clinics with active transmitters will begin receiving 4G modems in early November.
